QuickTime Movie Controller The QuickTime movie controller is shown below. • It controls the playback of a movie.   • The first icon (far left) sets the sound volume of the movie · a pop-up slider appears when the button is clicked. • The next icon toggles between playing or pausing the movie. • The grey slider bar in the centre represents the length of the movie · clicking on the bar jumps to that part of the movie. • The slider indicates the current position in the movie · dragging the slider ‘flips’ through the corresponding frames of the movie, · dragging the slider while holding down shift selects the corresponding portion of the movie. • To the right of the slider bar are the step backward and step forward buttons · step backward moves to the previous frame of the movie, · step forward moves to the next frame of the movie. • The last icon (far right) is the size box · the size box resizes the movie window. QuickTime Movie Controller Tips • Volume · press shift while clicking the volume icon to increase the volume by up to three times, · press option while clicking the volume icon to toggle the sound on and off, · press up arrow to increase the volume and down arrow to decrease it. • Play/Pause · press shift while clicking the play button to select the movie as you play, · press space or return to toggle between playing or pausing the movie, · press command-right arrow to play the movie forwards (if the movie speed palette is open, the movie will play in the direction selected in the palette). · press command-left arrow to play the movie backwards (if the movie speed palette is open, the movie will play in the direction selected in the palette). · double-clicking a movie will play it, and a single-click will pause it. • Slider Bar · press shift while clicking in two different positions in the slider bar to select the portion of the movie between the two positions, · press shift while dragging in the slider bar to select a portion of the movie, · press delete to clear the selected portion of the movie or the current frame. • Step Buttons · press shift while clicking on a step button to add a frame to the selection, · press option while clicking on the step forward button to jump to the last frame of the movie, · press option while clicking on the step backward button to jump to the first frame of the movie, · press control while clicking on a step button to display a mini-slider which lets you increase the speed of the movie by up to 2.5 times, either forwards or backwards, · press left arrow to step a frame backwards, · press right arrow to step a frame forwards. • Size Box · press option while dragging the size box to size the movie in or out at regular intervals — i.e. double, normal, half, third and quarter sizes, · press shift to maintain the length-to-width aspect ratio (in QuickTime 2.5 and earlier), · press shift to disregard the length-to-width aspect ratio (in QuickTime 3.0 and later).
